Welcome to Urban Grounds

Welcome to Urban Grounds.  We are a relationship and fair trade coffee shop nestled in the historic distric of Glenwood at the corner of Frere and Ayott.  Our atmosphere is extremely relaxed and we are here for you to “escape the daily grind.”

The Urban Grounds team is passionate about fair trade and relationship coffees and we are always seeking out ways to keep our business as local as possible. From tree to cup we are involved in fair trade initiatives with our farmers. You won’t find beans roasted in Italy here, we are trying to expose South Africans to the great artisan coffee roasters right here in our own country. Kristy comments, “Freshness is so important to us, that’s why we don’t serve beans older than 14 days from roasting. By using South African roasters, we can achieve the freshness and quality that we want.”

This blog is for our customers.  Coffee is our passion, and we wanted a place to dialog about “all that is coffee” with you! The blog is our conversation with you outside of the shop.  We welcome your thoughts on our store, our coffee or anything else you deem relevent.  This blog is also for your coffee education!  We will provide you with all the latest on what is happening in the coffee world and will provide you with information on how coffee should taste and be brewed.

Come in for your first cup today and let us know your thoughts!  You won’t be disappointed.

The Urban Grounds Team
